GARDEN CITY — Any Kansas high school wrestling team would be hard-pressed to be facing tougher competion than what was showcased on Friday and Saturday at the Rocky Welton Invitational at Garden City High School.
Great Bend High School was led by junior Greg Burley, who captured third place at 132 pounds, beating Arkansas City’s Kendall Biddle by decision in a consolation match.
Panthers senior Bryce Hofmeister (160) placed fifth, winning by decision over Zac Finch of Garden City.
Gunar Brewer (220) of GBHS was pinned by Newton’s Raymond Gallegos in a fifth-place match, and Cody Liles (120) lost by decision to Dodge City's Clay Weil in a fifth-place match.
The Panthers have a home quadrangular at the Panther Athletic Center on Thursday.
