HOISINGTON — A second-quarter surge put the Russell High School girls' basketball team ahead of Hoisington.
The Lady Broncos held on to beat Hoisington 42-32 in the championship game of the Hoisington Winter Jam.
The Lady Cardinals took an early 11-8 lead in the first quarter.
Savannah Rose went 4 of 4 from the free-throw line in the first quarter and finished with eight points.
After the first eight minutes, Hoisington went cold.
Jordin Greer scored all four of the Lady Cardinals points in the quarter from the line. Greer finished with a game-high 15 points.
Hoisington scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, but Russell matched the point total to hold its lead.
Russell's Kelli Rourke scored nine of her team-leading 14 points in the fourth quarter.
