Russell girls track places first in home meet

RUSSELL— Russell’s girls track and field team dominated the competition at Thursday’s home meet with a first place finish and a final team score of 98 points out of five teams. Hutch Trinity, Ellsworth, Hoisington and Hays-TMP-Marian rounded out the rest of the competition with scores of 86, 67, 61 and 59.

Russell boys finished last in their meet with a final team score of 61.

Alaina Gfeller and Jaclyn Schulte place first and second respectively in the girls long jump with distances of 16.8 and 15.2 ft. Valerie Morgenstern was second in the shot put with a throw of 30.10 ft. In the high jump, Erin Risher placed third at 4.6 ft. Angeleah Stierlen and Samantha Wedel took second and third place in the pole vault at 8.6 and 8 ft.

The Russell girls also took gold in the 4X400 relay with a time of 4:15.94 and first place in 4X100 relay at 52.92. Names were not provided in any of the relay results.

Alaina Gfeller posted a time of 1:03.05 and a first place finish in the second heat of the 400 meter dash. Madison Roth took gold in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 54.57. Roth and Schulte grabbed second and third in the 100 meter hurdles with times of 17.70 and 18.19. Freshman Jaime Hanson placed first in the 200 dash with a sprint of 34.66 Stierlen and Erin Risher were the top runner in the second and third heats at 29.97 and 29.13.

In boys competition, Russell’s Skylar Bender placed first in the 300 meter low hurdles with a time of 49.25. In the second heat, Kiefer Craig finished third at 46.36. Noah Gfeller won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:11.04. Terry Fabian won the second heat of the 200 meter dash timing in at 26.40 while Craig finished third in the fourth heat at 24.81. In the second heat of the 100 meter dash, Fabian polled a first place sprint of 12.27 while Garret Stoppel and Grant Murphy placed second and third in the third and fourth heats with times of 11.73 and 11.56 respectively. Tanner Brown placed  second in the 400 meter sprint at 54.61. Russell had the top relay team in the 4X800 with a time of 9:39. No names were provided in the relay events.


In field events, Seth Boxberger was the top thrower in the shot put with a toss of 42.3 ft. Jordan Swanson finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 39.5 ft. Swanson also took second place in the long jump at 19.9 ft.
