HOISINGTON — In the opening game of the Hoisington Winter Jam, the Otis-Bison High School girls’ basketball team found themselves trailing early against Russell.
The Lady Broncos jumped ahead 16-7 after eight minutes on their way to a 60-26 dismantling.
Otis-Bison, which struggled to get high-percentage shots against the taller and faster defense of Russell, was led by Hannah Bannister’s four 3-pointers for 12 points.
The Lady Cougars play Minneapolis in the second round of the tournament on Thursday at 3 p.m.

HOISINGTON — With the final seconds running off the clock, Otis-Bison had a couple of opportunities to tie the game.
Dylan Wissman’s drive to the basket came up shy, and Justus Bartonek’s shot missed as Ellinwood held on for the win.
The Eagles were led by Patrick Ringering, who finished with 14 points.
Tyler Maier led the Cougars with 15 points.
Otis-Bison (3-8) challenges Russell on Thursday at 4:45 p.m.
Ellinwood (4-6) faces Victoria on Friday at 4:45.
