HOISINGTON — The Hoisington High School football team fell in overtime to Sedgwick, 22-21.
With time running out, and Sedwick driving down the field, a penalty gave it a chance at a field goal from four yards out.
Sedgwick’s kicker missed, hurling the game into overtime with the game tied at 14.
Hoisington got the ball first and drove down the field. Derrick Kaiser found tight end Cody Stetler for a 6-yard touchdown reception.
On the following possession, Sedgwick was able to move the ball down the field and score on a fourth-down play.
Instead of kicking a field goal and tying the game again, Sedgwick head coach Jeff Werner decided to go for the win.
Sedgwick converted for two points, giving it the edge.
Central Plains 56, Word of Life 0
WICHITA — Central Plains High School opened its inaugural season in style, running all over Word of Life (Wichita) to win 56-0.
Running back Benn Kirmer, who tore up yardage for Claflin late last season, led the Oilers with three touchdowns and 173 yards.
Nick Schepmann added 73 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Oilers only threw two passes all night as they combined for 296 rushing yards.
Central Plains hold their home opener this Friday night against Otis-Bison at 7.

Macksville 34, Victoria 32
VICTORIA — Macksville held on to win on Friday night in Victoria.
The Mustangs took 14-6 lead into the locker room at the end of the first half, but Victoria scored 26 points in the third quarter, overtaking Macksville before the Mustangs came back.
Quarterback Seth Filbert scored the final touchdown for Macksville to give them the lead at the end of the third quarter. Neither team scored in the final quarter.
Filbert finished the game 18 for 37 through the air for 326 yards and four touchdowns. Filbert also led Macksville by rushing for 35 yards and one touchdown.
Filbert’s main target was Tanner Tranbarger, who finished with 154 receiving yards and three touchdown. Adam Oak got 92 receiving yards and one touchdown.
The Mustangs host Word of Life on Friday night at 7.

LaCrosse 57, Larned 14
LARNED — Larned opened its season with a loss to LaCrosse.
The Leopards jumped ahead 28-6 after the first quarter and the Indians were unable to catch them.
Chad Wallace led the Indians with 67 rushing yards and a touchdown. He averaged 9.57 yards per carry.
Jamil Shoemaker the other touchdown for Larned.
Larned hosts Ellinwood in a Mid-Central Activities Association showdown this Friday night at 7.
Skyline 50, Stafford 12
PRATT — Stafford found itself down 28-0 at the half, and even after a couple of second-half touchdowns, the Trojans couldn’t climb back.
Stafford running back Tristin Paulsen led it with 99 yards and both touchdowns. Ethan Johnson rushed for 46 yards.
Trojans quarterback Gus Stueve struggled connecting, going one for eight for seven yards and an interception.
Skyline mixed pass and run with Brennan Stotts rushing for 145 yards. Stotts also returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown, as well as grabbing a 35-yard reception to score.
Thunderbird quarterback Brandon Broce went seven for eight for 158 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns.
Stafford hosts Burrton on Friday night at 7.
