St. John boys find gold in relay, finish seventh at league meet

ELLINWOOD— The 4x800 relay team of Quincy Smith, Clay Cooper, Triston Long and Gerardo Calleros finished with a first place time of 8:40.57 at Thursday’s Central Prarie League Meet. As a team, the Tiger boys placed seventh out of a nine-team competition with 44 points. Ness City was the top finisher at 98.

The Tiger boys also metaled in the two other relays as Calleros, Smith, Cole Kinnamon and Dean Wade placed third in the 4x100 with a time of 46.13. Smith, Cooper, Calleros and Wade then teamed up for the bronze in the 4x400 at 1:06.

In field events, Tanner Wycoff won the pole vault with a vault of 10.06 ft.

In the girls division, St. John finished seventh with 44 team points while league host Ellinwood placed as the top finisher with 164.

In running events, Torre Fisher took third place in the 400 meter dash clocking in at 1:04.04. Bailey Burns was runner up in the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 50.41.

Turning to field events, Baley Doggett won silver in the long jump with a leap of 14.11 ft. Teresa Christie placed second in the shot put at 33.01 ft.
