MEADE – St. John’s boys qualified for the Class 2A state cross country championship with a runner-up finish (64 points) behind Stanton County (56) at Meade Golf Course. St. John’s A.J. Miller placed ninth (18:25.69). Also counting were Remington Walker, 11th, 18:32.03; Quincy Smith, 12th, 18:46.35 ; Wrangler Walker, 15th, 18:49.88; and Triston Long, 16th, 18:53.21

HAYS — Sylvan Grove’s Legion baseball team rallied for a 5-4 victory over Ellinwood on Colin Obermueller’s game-winning single in Wednesday’s AA Russell Zone baseball tournament. The game was moved to Hays from Russell because of a unplayable field.Ellinwood (9-10) plays Thursday against the Marysville-Smith Center loser.Ellinwood led 4-1 after 41/2 innings. Sylvan Grove led 1-0 when Dylan Fry scored a first-inning run.Ellinwood’s Levi Swenson scored a second-inning run on a double steal with Evan Johanning.
