St. John jv track teams place second at home meet

ST. JOHN— It was a silver Tuesday for St. John’s jv boys and girls track and field teams.

In their first home meet of the season, the Tiger boys and girls finished as the second place team out of a seven-team meet.

Macksville won the championship in the girls division with 143 team points. The Tigers posted 116 points while Garden Plain edged out Stafford by two points for third place at 59 points. Meanwhile Garden Plain was the top team in the boys meet with 185 followed by St. John (125), Macksville (95) and Pretty Prarie (75).

In girls competition, Torre Fisher won gold in the 400 meter dash timing in at 1:05.42. Bailey Burns was the top runner in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 18:32 and 52.68. Miranda Garner, Baley Doggett, Kerisa Brown and Ramsey McVey won the 4x100 meter relay clocking in at 57.51. Garner and Fisher then joined Burns and Katrena Brown in the 4x800 relay with a first place finish of 11:23.20.
In field events, Doggett won the discus throw with a distance of 89.5 ft. beating out teammate Tara Nelson by a foot. Nelson placed second at 88.5 ft.

Other medalists for the Tiger girls included Fisher and Brown winning second and third place respectively in the 800 meter run with times of 2:42.68 and 2:59.20. Burns, Doggett, McVey and Fisher finished second in the 4X400 relay with a time of 5:00.90. Nelson placed second in the javelin with a throw of 76.05 ft. Kerisa Brown was third in the long jump with a leap of 14.02 ft.

In the boys division, Triston Long won the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:52.33. The Tigers had an impressive day in the team running events winning gold in all three relays. In the 4x100, Jorge Calleros, Alexis Valenzuela, Quincy Smith and Cole Kinnamon won first place with a time of 47.08. The Tiger foursome then took gold in the 4x400 at 3:55.58. Smith and Long joined up with Remington Walker and Ryan Woodward to win the 4x800 meter relay timing in at 9:19.74.

Other boys medal winners include Kinnamon who placed third in the 100 meter dash at 11.87. Calleros won bronze in the 400 meter dash with a sprint of 56.22 while Woodward finished in second place in the 800 meter run at 5:20.83. Long came in second in  the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:20.83 while Woodward recorded a bronze in the 3200 meter run at 13:10.11. In hurdle events, Hunter Ward placed third with a time of 46.33.

In the field, Chase Fisher, placed third in the high jump with a leap of 5.08 ft. Smith was third in the triple jump at 37 ft. while Fisher placed second and third respectively in the shot put and discus with throws of 35.01 ft. and 95.04 ft.
