Defending Mid-Winter Classic champion St. John (9-0) drew the top seed, but innovative scheduling gives the unbeaten Tigers three games next week. St. John will open against the Pratt-Macksville loser at 4:45 p.m. But the Tigers will still play in Friday’s second semifinal game at 8:15 p.m. against the Pratt-Macksville winner, which is scheduled Tuesday. The other bracket matches Ness City against Nickerson and Larned versus winless Wichita West (0-8) in Thursday’s games.
Great Bend High School’s boys (1-6) drew Circle (8-1) in the El Dorado Bluestem Classic at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 22 at El Dorado High School. The Panthers will also play Jan. 23 and Jan. 24 at El Dorado.
The Class 2A Central Plains boys meet Class 6A Junction City in the Dodge City Tournament of Champions at 7 p.m. Jan. 22. The Dodge City field is filled with Class 6A and 5A schools.
The top seeds at the Hoisington Winter Jam are the Otis-Bison boys and LaCrosse girls. both unbeaten. Hoisington’s boys play Victoria at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday. Ellinwood’s boys play Minneapolis at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.
The Ellinwood girls meet Victoria at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Hoisington girls play Minneapolis at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Sterling girls tournament features Sterling and Lyons and eight teams with winning records. Wichita Life (10-3) is seeded eighth.
