Running back/free safety Trent Uselton had a highlight-reel performance for the Great Bend High School junior varsity football team during first-half action on Monday evening during a 55-6 victory over Garden Plain at Memorial Stadium.
Uselton, a sophomore, scored four touchdowns, including a 70-yard touchdown run on the game’s first play from scrimmage, a 6-yard run on the opening play of the second quarter, a 61-yard scoring run with two minutes left in the half and then capped his onslaught with a 52-yard interception return for a TD to help lead the Panthers in building at 42-6 halftime lead.
Also adding to the fireworks was a 92-yard scoring bolt by running back Darion Yager, which came midway through the first quarter. Quarterback Shade Wondra preceded Yager’s TD with one of his own on a 4-yard run.
A running clock was in place after halftime. In second-half action, Chase Pumford scored on a 7-yard run on the opening play of the fourth quarter, and Gustavo Apodaca added his third extra-point kick of the game to make it 49-6.
Jack Westhoff’s interception return for a score from 65 yards out made it 55-6 with six minutes left in the fourth quarter.
The Panthers (3-1) and their stingy defense shut out the Owls in the second half.
