SALINA – One week after winning a state softball championship, Great Bend Quicksilver placed as state runner-up in the Independent Fastpitch Association tournament. The Westmoreland Twisters defeated Quicksilver 7-4 in the championship showdown after winning 5-1 in the 12-and-under winners bracket finals.
TWISTERS 5, QUICKSILVER 1 — The Twisters avenged a trio of losses with a solid 5-1 victory. The Twisters scored two runs on groundouts and one on a wild pitch. They hit a home run and doubled home a run.
Quicksilver starter Braelyn Turner was followed by Denver Ringo. Kya Behr scored Quicksilver’s run on Ringo’s groundout. Second baseman Kate Jackson and first baseman Alyssa McCauley turned a double play.
QUICKSILVER 7, MCPHERSON LADY EXPRESS 0 — Quicksilver’s McCauley and Jackson combined for a four-hit shutout.
Josie Blevins’ second-inning singled scored Camdyn Post and Kamryn Koelsch. Ringo singled home Behr in the third inning. Katherine Mazouch singled home Post and Oakley Wichers in a four-run fourth inning. Behr singled home Mazouch and Jackson scored on a passed ball for a 7-0 lead.
TWISTERS 7, QUICKSILVER 4 (CHAMPIONSHIP) — The Twisters broke a 4-4 tie with runs in the third and fourth innings. The Twisters hit a two-run triple and two-run double. Two runs scored on singles and a run scored on a passed ball.
Quicksilver Jackson, McCauley and Turner pitched innings. McCauley’s single scored Koelsch and Post for a 2-2 tie. Behr singled home Mazouch and Jackson for a 4-4 tie.
