LARNED — Pratt Skyline's Justus Notovny scored a career high 37 points with 14 field goals to match Larned's scoring in a 46-37 non-league basketball victory Saturday. Notovny converted a pair of 3-pointers. Skyline outscored Larned 14-9 in the fourth quarter.

Cade Colglazier led Larned (1-7) with 12 points. Carter Crosby scored eight, The Indians are scheduled to visit Lyons Tuesday, weather permitting.

Larned simply had no defensive answer for Novotny. He scored 17 of Skyline’s 18 halftime points. 

“We tried man-to-man and zone," said Larned coach Luke Steinlage. "Our zone worked the best against most of their players, but we couldn’t stop Novotny. He had a great game. We shot miserably from the free throw line (5-15). That was the biggest reason we lost. That and turning the ball over.

Skyline led 7-6 after one quarter and 18-17 at halftime. Novotny sparked a 32-28 lead after three quarters. Larned closed within one point, but could never grab the lead. Skyline eventually pulled away with free throws.

Larned committed 19 turnovers in the game that led to a number of easy baskets for the Thunderbirds (5-3.). Larned drops to 1-7. 

Neither team shot well. Skyline made 17 of 51 (33%) and Larned 14 of 42 (33%). The difference in the game was Novotny aggressively attacking Larned's defense.
