St. John's Smith is Central Prairie runner-up

NESS CITY — St. John's Quade Smith (18:19.6) and Otis-Bison's Destiny Mitchell (22:39.3) earned runner-up medals at Thursday's Central Prairie League cross country championship. Smith finished 13th at the 2022 1A state meet. Mitchell placed ninth at the 2022 1A state meet.

Ness City medalist Broxton Gall (17:37.71) and Eagle medalist Stephany Esparza (22:04.41) led their respective Ness City teams to Central Prairie League titles. Ness City's boys (18) outdistanced Ellinwood (40). Ness City's girls (13) beat runner-up Otis-Bison (25).

Earning top 10 boys medals were Ellinwood's fifth-place Chase Gibson (19:11.3) and ninth-place teammate Ryan Pohlman (19;27.3).

Finishing top 10 on the girls side were Otis-Bison's eighth-place Ava Kenyon (25:16.5) and Ellinwood's ninth-place Heidi Brauer (25;25.3).
