Three Panthers earn first-place medals
VALLEY CENTER – Great Bend’s No. 5 state-ranked Avery Wolf (113), No. 4 state-ranked Wyatt Weber (138) and Cooper Liles (126) earned first-place medals at Saturday’s Valley Center round-robin wrestling tournament.
Wolf earned four wins on pins. Weber swept four matches and pinned Wichita Carroll’s Ryan Pacha in 34 seconds in the championship match. Cooper Liles swept five matches, including three pins.
Runner-up Gage Reimer (170) won four matches and lost in 2:57 to Carroll’s Andrew Husband in the championship match. Runner-up Skyler McMullen (120) won four of five matches and lost the first-place match 2-0 to Newton’s Colin Bybee.
No. 3 state-ranked Kaden Spragis (106) placed third with a 5-3 victory over Valley Center’s Jett Schwartz.
Newton captured the team championship with 195.5 points. Great Bend finished fourth with 146 points.
