ST. JOHN – St. John’s Tanner Halling scored 22 points to spark the No. 5 -state ranked 1A Tiger basketball team past No. 3 state-ranked 2A Ness City 62-56 for first place in the Central Prairie League.
Point guard Mason Osborne contributed 17 points, 13 after halftime, and six assists for St. John (7-2, 3-0 CPL). Marshall Woolf scored 10 points.
“Tanner is pretty good,” said St. John coach Clint Kinnamon. “Those guys are pretty good. That’s a tough game that will help us down the road. It’s a great effort against a talented team. The crowd was awesome.”
The Tigers’ role players came through.
“Eddy Calleros played solid and Marshall Woolf played comfortable,” Kinnamon said.
Ness City (7-1, 2-1 CPL) was paced by Landon Reinhardt and John Pfannenstiel with 13 points apiece.
