SALINA — Great Bend's Cailee McMullen qualified for the 5A state golf tournament for the second consecutive year (44-46—90) at Monday's 5A golf regional at Salina Municipal Golf Course. Panther Ashlyn Harbaugh (48-48—96) also made the state tournament as an individual. The 5A state golf tourney is scheduled Oct. 21-22 at Emporia Municipal Golf Course.
"We look forward to taking two girls to the 36-hole state tournament in Emporia next week," said Great Bend coach Travis McAtee.
Kaylee Reiser (53-45—98) narrowly missed qualifying by one shot. Kendyl Henning (47-54—101) also counted for the Panthers (385).
"Our 385 team score was our second-best of the season,," McAtee said. "I can’t complain about the girls’ effort today. The three qualifying teams that finished ahead of us are quality, very deserving teams."
Andover's Madison Slayton (34-38—72) captured medalist honors with a trio of birdies at Nos. 5, 9 and 18. Andover High (329), Hays High (340) and Salina South (345) qualified as teams.
