ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Tony Romo wants country fans to know that when he throws, his footballs are properly inflated.
The Cowboys quarterback poked fun at the New England Patriots on Sunday night during the 2015 Academy of Country Music Awards, referencing the scandal sparked in the playoffs when New England was found using deflated footballs.
Romo was tossing balls with country stars Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton when Shelton asked: “This isn’t one of those deflated balls?”
Romo replied: “We’re the Dallas Cowboys. We have real balls.”
The NFL is investigating the Pats’ use of deflated footballs in the AFC championship game, with no timetable on its conclusions.
After confronting the flap, the Patriots beat Seattle in the Super Bowl.
The Cowboys lost in the divisional round to the Green Bay Packers.
