Barton Community College to host two-day OSHA training

OSHA Training students pose for a photo on the Grandview Plaza campus this fall with Barton’s fall safety protection scaffolding, which is used for on-site training. The training incorporates a wide variety of other equipment to help facilitate thorough hands-on learning.

Barton’s well-established OSHA program will make its way to Barton County from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 19-20 in the Fine Arts Building, room F-30. 

This training program provides general awareness for entry-level construction workers and covers recognizing and preventing hazards on a construction site. The cost is $275 and includes two-day training, printed materials, snacks and lunch. At the conclusion of training, participants will take the exam and, upon receiving a passing grade, receive an OSHA 10 card.

The class will be led by Instructor and Director of Barton’s OSHA Training Institute Education Center Lawrence Weber and will cover fall protection, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous materials, walking and working surfaces, exit routes, emergency action plans, fire prevention plans and protection, electrical, personal protective equipment and hazard communication. 

Barton’s Hazardous Materials & Emergency Services Training Institute (HMESTI) opened in 2008 and provides business, industry and governmental entities with environmental, health and safety training services. The Institute is an OSHA Training Institute Education Center and is a member of the Great Plains OSHA Education Center (GPOEC) Region VII and began providing OSHA training in 2012.
