Farm Bureau members met Sunday Sept. 23, at the Great Bend Events Center for the Barton County Farm Bureau’s 100th Anniversary Dinner Celebration and annual meeting to conduct the business of the association.
Several members were recognized for their accomplishments in the profession of agriculture. Mr. and Mrs. Brad Birzer were named the 2019 Barton County Farm Family. Robert Morgenstern received the Natural Resource Award; Mr. Morgenstern was recognized for his efforts in environmental protection measures and conservation practices used on the Morgenstern farm.
Three families were recognized as Century Farm honorees. These families have been farming land that has been in the family for at least 100 years. These families included Joann and John Koriel, Mary Jean Miller and David and Pamela Wirth.
The formal business of the association was conducted concluding with election of new officers to the board of directors and delegates to the Kansas Farm Bureau Annual Meeting. The board members for the upcoming year are: Jerry Morgenstern, president; Tim Maier, vice president; Sharon Hiss, treasurer. County Coordinator Jerry Esfeld serves as secretary for the association. Other members that serve on the Barton County Board of Directors are Tom Burns, Roger Long, Darren Nicolet, Dara Prescott, Kyle Schartz and Michael Stueder.
