The Heartland Cancer Center is once again the beneficiary of a local fundraising event at a downtown business.
Beautiful Beginnings, 1523 Main, recently raised almost $400 for the cancer center in conjunction with one of its suppliers and Mary Kay Cosmetics.
“We co-hosted the fundraiser with Brighton during Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” said Jennifer Klepper, Beautiful Beginnings owner. “We donated 10 percent of all Brighton sales in October, and then on Power of Pink night, we donated 10 percent of all sales in the store.”
Brighton products include necklaces, earrings and bracelets; it unveils its annual collectible cancer bracelet during October.
“This is a wonderful way to raise money for our local cancer patients,” Klepper said. “Everyone has a good time, while knowing they are helping their neighbors who are going through a difficult time.”
Nancy Sundahl of Mary Kay participated in the fundraiser and donated a portion of her sales to the Mary Kay Ash Foundation. Marlene Panning of Great Bend won a full set of Brighton jewelry.
“We started this three years ago when my husband and I began operating the store,” Klepper commented. “Anything we can do to support local patients, the more likely we are to have more survivors.”
Jamie Hutchinson, R.N. and cancer center director, said she and her colleagues are grateful for this donation.
“The generosity of our community is always so gratifying,” Hutchinson said. “A lot can be done with $400 and those who donated can be assured it will help local patients.”
Heartland Cancer Center is part of the St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center family.
