The United Way of Central Kansas hosted its first Beef ‘N Brew on Oct. 3. This event was presented by A&G Catering and Dry Lake Brewing and was the brainchild of Gaila Demel, executive director of UWCK. This fundraiser brought a new event to Great Bend, combining samples of various cuts of beef with the guests having the opportunity try out several craft beers from Dry Lake Brewing. Their knowledgeable staff, along with Brew Masters and owners, Ryan Fairchild and Kevin Burkey, made the task of finding the best pairing for each guests individual tastes a great addition to the event.

Alan and Gail Moeder of A&G Catering prepared beef and noodles, beef tenderloin, and brisket sliders. UWCK rounded out the selection with German beef cabbage stew. Volunteers from Barton County Youth Care donated their time to help plating and serving. Topping off the main entrée, homemade United Way logo cookies were made by Marisa Fairchild.

Guests enjoyed watching the KC Chiefs in anticipation of winning the door prize, donated by Eldridge Fencing, Heart of Kansas Mercantile and Friends of United Way of Central Kansas. Michelle Daubert walked away with a Napoleon Portable Gas Grill, KC Chiefs grilling accessories, a “lucky” tailgate gnome and Pop’t Pop Corn in a KC Chiefs canister.

“We actually planned this for last year; we even had T-shirts printed and sponsors that showed interest in supporting the event. The support showed us this would be another great “signature” event for UWCK. This event would not have been possible without each and every sponsor who stepped up and took a chance on a new event to support United Way of Central Kansas,” said Gaila Demel.
