Several Fuller Industries employees Tuesday took part in two four-hour first aid training sessions held at the company plant west of Great Bend.

In all, 13 employees from all areas of the facility participated in the classes that were instructed by veteran nurse and emergency medical technician Jennifer Ladd from Barton Community College.

Fuller understands the importance of such training and offers it for all employees every two years, said Fuller Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator Roger McPherson. The last classes were held in 2022.

“We learned how to preform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid on adults and children,” he said. “We were also instructed on how to use an Epinephrine pen, and a tourniquet if such a need should arise. There are tourniquets in each first aid bag placed though out the plant.”

Participants were also shown how to operate an automatic external defibrillator (AED). “We are fortunate to have an AED machine here at our plant, so it is important to understand how to use it properly,” McPherson said.

In addition, they were shown how to recognize someone who is having a stroke (FAST- face dropping, arm weakness, speech difficulty, time to call 911,) and if someone is choking.

McPherson and Human Resources Director Angi Beck organized the training.
