The new dentist at Heart of Kansas Family Health Care was looking for a clinic where he could use his skills while concentrating on patient-centered care and treatment.

And he found it.

Wonsik Jung, DDS, recently began seeing patients of all ages at the Great Bend Heart of Kansas location, 1905 19th.

“After being here for several weeks now, I realize that my choice to come to Heart of Kansas was excellent,” Dr. Jung said. “I can focus on each patient with time to give clear and detailed explanations about treatment and answer their questions.

“My goal is to provide the best quality dental care and serve my new community. This is why I want to practice dentistry.”

Dr. Jung’s experience includes fillings, root canals, crowns, bridges, complete and partial denture, simple surgical extractions, sealants, cleaning and deep cleaning.

Many of these services are offered now; Dr. Jung and the Heart of Kansas staff are preparing to see denture, crown and root canal patients.

In addition, Dr. Jung said one of his goals is to “learn a variety of modern techniques with continuing education. I want to provide high-quality care while maintaining the wonderful reputation of Heart of Kansas.

“This is a very friendly and professional environment and everyone has been so welcoming.”

Stormy Newell, registered dental hygienist, assists Dr. Jung.

“Oral hygiene is so important to our everyday lives,” he noted. “If you can’t chew your favorite foods or suffer the sharp pain of a toothache your quality of life is greatly affected. Seeing a dentist every six months is good preventive medicine.”

A native of South Korea, Dr. Jung earned a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2007. His post-bachelor program in chemistry was completed at State University of New York, Stony Brook in 2011.

He then earned his doctor of dental surgery in 2019 at Howard University College of Dentistry in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Jung’s most recent position was at Dental Dreams in Philadelphia, Pa. Memberships include the American Dental Association and Academy of General Dentistry.

Brett Middleton, Heart of Kansas chief executive officer, said the clinic and its patients are fortunate to have Dr. Jung on staff.

“Wonsik has experience in many aspects of dentistry, and is able and willing to help us expand our services,” Middleton said. “He focuses on each patient and takes the time to address all their dental concerns. All of us at Heart of Kansas are glad he chose to share his skills with our patients.”

Heart of Kansas Family Health Care is a Federally Qualified Health Center, which allows it to be a safety net for patients who are uninsured or underinsured. Its professional providers also welcome those with insurance at the Great Bend, Larned and Stafford locations. Heart of Kansas is open to everyone.
