As we come into the growing season and plants begin to break dormancy, producers may have to start making some tough decisions. Since moisture has been at a premium this year, there will be added considerations to look at before getting your cattle to pasture.
On March 23rd, beginning at noon with a meal, join K-State Research and Extension for “Nutritional and Drought Stress Strategies for Area Producers.” This program will have Justin Waggoner on site to cover several aspects of the current drought situation, and allow producers to talk with a specialist about current issues with livestock. Some of the topics will be the importance of inventorying of available feed/alternative feed, considerations of culling animals, as well as additives and supplements for different times of the year. There will also be conversations for hauling water and requirements for livestock.
The program will be at American Ag Credit located at 5634 10th St. in Great Bend and is sponsored by First Kansas Bank. To RSVP for the meal count, please call Alicia Boor at 620-793-1910, or by email at aboor@ksu.edu by March 21st.
