Ellinwood Hospital and Clinic is moving forward with the endoscopy and colonoscopy project, featuring Dr. Robin Durrett, board-certified general surgeon. Community members will see a contractor’s office and work being done at the hospital starting Monday, March 19.
While work is happening, the hospital will still be providing emergency room services and patients will use the same emergency entrance on the north side of the hospital. The contractor, Wiens & Company of Hutchinson, will be preparing the emergency room area to include an endoscopy suite.
While the process has taken longer than expected to get endoscopy procedures started at Ellinwood, the hospital and clinic are already seeing increased ancillary service demand.
“The new service is generating traffic to the clinic, imaging, and laboratory services, and making care more convenient to patients. Once we’re up and running, it will be even more so,” said Kile Magner, CEO of Ellinwood Hospital and Clinic.
“Dr. Durrett is an amazing addition to our medical team,” Magner said. “And this service is a great addition to our lineup of family care, outreach, inpatient, and emergency services. To be able to provide these services means that we can care for more patients, here at home, with local doctors that they know and trust.”
Dr. Durrett received his doctorate at the University of Health Sciences, completed an internship in Still Regional Medical Center at Jefferson City, Mo., and completed a residency at Parklane Medical Center/KCUMB in Kansas City. In 1994, he moved to Hoisington and began Central Kansas Surgical Services P.A., performing surgeries at Clara Barton Hospital, Central Kansas Medical Center, Ellinwood District Hospital and Great Bend Regional Hospital. Dr. Durrett is a Fellow of American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of American College of Osteopathic Surgeons. He has also served as an Associate Clinical Professor at Wichita State University and a Clinical Preceptor for University of Health Sciences.
