Goodwill Industries of Kansas has announced their new retail store and donation center in Newton will pilot a new concept to further their mission of employing people with disabilities. The new 14,000 square foot facility will contain retail store and donation drive through, but will also provide services and job training to individuals with developmental disabilities. Dondlinger & Sons Construction Co. has been selected as the general contractor for the store which is expected to open this fall. Schaefer Johnson Cox Frey Architecture is the architect.
“My heart is in helping the developmentally disabled find purpose, pride and dignity through the power of work,” says Goodwill Industries’ President/CEO Emily Compton. “We currently serve individuals in Harvey County, so it makes sense for us to figure out a way to deliver those services to the area. We hope to replicate this model to deliver services in communities around the state.”
