Hagerman named partner

LARNED — Smith & Bumett LLC, a law firm based in Larned with roots reaching back to 1947, announced that Brenda West Hagerman has been named a partner in the firm.
Originally from Rush County, Hagerman graduated from Kansas State University in 1977 and KU Law School in 1980. She is a former Pawnee County Attorney, and then served 32 years as General Counsel to Larned State Hospital. She joined Smith & Bumett in 2016. Her areas of interest include estates and estate planning, certain juvenile matters, and disability claims.
Smith & Bumett began in 1947 when Glee Smith Jr. formed a partnership with former judge Maurice Wildgen. In 1958, Don Burnett joined the firm. Jerry Larson came to the firm in 1975 and was a named partner for a lengthy period, retiring from the practice two years ago. Ron Smith joined in 2005 and is a partner. Jacque Butler was a named partner in 2010 but in 2014 took a position with the City of Derby’s legal department. With the addition of Hagerman, the firm’s new name will be Smith, Burnett & Hagerman LLC.
