The new physician at St. Rose Health Center, who has started seeing patients, brings years of experience in family medicine to her new position.

Originally from Hays, Jill Doerfler, M.D, recently joined the St. Rose Family Medicine team and is accepting new patients. She will care for and treat patients of all ages with anything from the flu, to aches and pains, to chronic conditions.

Dr. Doerfler has sports medicine training too.

“I am really excited to be here, even though this location is just temporary,” Dr. Doerfler said. “All of us here are eager to move into the new St. Rose facility in a few days.

“I think once it opens, patients will be impressed,” she added. “It promises to be a convenient, modern setting for St. Rose Family Medicine and our many other services.”

Dr. Doerfler also noted that even though she has been at St. Rose only a short while, she has learned that “the staff here is great. They are compassionate and professional, and have made me feel welcome. It didn’t take me long to notice that patients and their families are the top priority here.”

Most recently, Dr. Doerfler treated patients at the Russell Regional Hospital Emergency Department (ED) and Physicians Clinic. She also was medical director of the Level IV Trauma team in the ED, as well as medical director of rehabilitation and swing-bed services.

In addition, Dr. Doerfler was chief of staff at Russell for a year.

She earned her medical degree at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 2005, after receiving a bachelor’s in sociology at Fort Hays State University and completing post-graduate medical school prerequisites at Wichita State University.

Dr. Doerfler performed her family medicine residency at Via Christi Family Medicine at Wichita.

Her background includes participation in the sports medicine program at Russell; she also served as the team physician for Wichita high schools’ football teams in conjunction with Via Christi.

“This background enables me to care for family medicine patients,” Dr. Doerfler commented. “I am glad to be here and looking forward to becoming acquainted with more Great Bend-area residents.”
