The competition dance team at Just Dance Studio in Great Bend traveled to Kansas City March 21 for the Dance Olympus/Dance America competition.
They took a jive/swing number called “Crush” which was based on a first crush on a boy that went wrong for so many reasons, said Kelly Scott, owner and instructor.  While there, dancers had the opportunity to participate in master classes taught by faculty with a wide range of disciplines in the dance arts.  Members of the team, all ninth graders at Great Bend High School, have dedicated several hours a week in the studio in preparation for the competition season.
“The group did an excellent job in performing it,” she said.  “This  was the first time we had a real audience response and crowd response after the dance...good for the ego.”
The team placed fifth overall and qualified for Nationals which is being held in Chicago this July. They will perform this number at their annual recital May 22 at the Great Bend High School auditorium.
“Our recital is themed, “Dance is Life” and is based upon the highs and the lows of life,” Scott said.
Tickets will go on sale beginning April 7 at the dance studio as reservations only.
