Kansas Department of Labor initiates new weekly claim filing system

TOPEKA – Kansas Secretary of Labor Delía García initiated a new claim filing process called gating on Thursday, for claimants to file their weekly claims.

Claimants who’s last names start with A-M may file unemployment applications and weekly claims on Sunday (after noon), Tuesday or Thursday. Claimants who’s last names start with N-Z may file unemployment applications and weekly claims on Monday, Wednesday or Friday. Saturday will be reserved for those who were unable to file a claim on their specified days.

This effort to reduce the burden on the unemployment benefits system during the opening days to file your weekly claim should ensure that claimants can file their claims in a timely manner, and the system can handle the volume of claims.

“When Kansans follow this guideline, we believe it will reduce the load on the system and allow claimants to file claims on time,” García said. “Thank you for your patience as we continue to work together to get your benefits to you.”
