September was Suicide Prevention Month. Barton County held two events to bring awareness to the community.
On Friday, Sept. 17, the Pedal for Prevention Bike Ride in Remembrance of Devin was held. Over 150 riders participated along the route beginning at Brit Spaugh Park and ending at Veterans Memorial Park. A Time of Remembrance with s’mores was held at the west shelter.
On Saturday, Sept. 18, the ninth-annual Golden Belt Glow For Life 5K run/1 mile walk was held at Veterans Memorial Park. In all, 100 participants gathered for the event. Sponsor Organizations included G.B. Psychiatric Services, Barton Community College, Rhythm Makings, Results Realty, Heart of Kansas Family HealthCare Inc, Aetna Better Health of Kansas and Darin’s Auto.
Many organizations were represented by participants of the Central Kansas Partnership, including #Zero Reasons Why Central Kansas, The Center for Counseling & Consultation, Kansas Children’s Service League - Healthy Families, Juvenile Justice Authority, Stepping Stones, Barton Community College, and Rise Up Central Kansas to name a few.
