Clara Barton Medical Center is hosting National Walk @ Lunch Day from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, on the walking trail at the new clinic location, 906 McKinley St., Great Bend.

It can be hard to find time in your busy schedule to participate in physical activity; however, taking a walk is one of the simplest, safest, and most effective forms of exercise. With this in mind, Clara Barton Medical Center designed its newly constructed Great Bend Clinic location with a walking trail, hoping to encourage long-lasting and sustainable, healthy lifestyle changes. On Wednesday, April 27, Clara Barton will host National Walk @ Lunch Day and is inviting the public to be the first to check out the new walking trail at Clara Barton Medical Clinic – Great Bend.

Clara Barton Medical Center encourages participants to wear their walking shoes and meet at Clara Barton Medical Clinic’s new location, at 906 McKinley St., for a come-and-go walking lunch. This event will kick-off at 11 a.m. with a ceremony recognizing donors who supported the walking trail project and will continue with the walking lunch from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Those who are not able to join the walk at this location are still invited to walk at their own place of employment.

National Walk @ Lunch Day is designed to motivate busy people to take a walk during lunch break and start a healthy routine. Walking is one of the easiest and most effective forms of exercise and, when done briskly and on a regular basis, can reduce the risk of developing heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis and diabetes. It burns calories and helps tone muscles as well as providing significant mental benefits, boosting your mood, and lowering stress.

All attendees will have a chance to register to win door prizes and Clara’s Corner Café will provide a complimentary sack lunch to the first 250 attendees. In addition, organizers plan to recognize National Arbor Day. The Great Bend Tree Board will be in attendance giving away redbud saplings to the first 100 interested participants and will also have a drawing for eight different varieties of 5-foot trees.

Join the tens of thousands of people around the country on April 27 and celebrate National Walk @ Lunch Day. Take a lunch break, get outside, and walk for your health. Remember to bring your walking shoes and meet outside Clara Barton Medical Clinic at 906 McKinley St. in Great Bend.
