Golden Belt Humane Society received a $9,000 grant investment from national nonprofit Petco Love in support of their lifesaving work for animals in Great Bend and Barton County.
Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested $350 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And Petco Love helps find loving homes for pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations — like ours — across North America, with 6.7 million pets adopted and counting.
“Our investment in Golden Belt Humane Society is part of more than $15M in investments recently announced by Petco Love to power local organizations across the country as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco
Love. “Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us. We recently launched Petco Love Lost, a national lost and found database that uses pet image technology to simplify the search for lost pets.”
“What an amazing award! Receiving these funds will provide a sense of security by watching over the animals, staff, volunteers and customers with the purchase of a security camera system,” said Heather Acheson, Director.
Since 2013, Golden Belt Humane Society has worked to increase live release rates by networking with other shelters and rescues and holding adoption events in the immediate community of Great Bend.
Live release rates of dogs have increased from less than 70 percent to an average rate of 94 percent. Live release rates for cats have increased from below 50 percent to an average of 80 percent.
Throughout the last few years, there have been upgrades and remodels for dog and cat kennels to keep them safer and stay in a healthier living environment during their temporary stay. All the physical upgrades to the shelter and now a security system couldn’t have happened without the grant awards from the Petco Love Foundation.”
Golden Belt Humane Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to animal welfare that provides temporary housing and medical care to unwanted pets.
