The staff at The University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus are excited every year to recognize the first baby of the New Year. For 2019, the first was born to Lacy and Saturnino Rodriguez of Ellinwood. Their new daughter, Myla Rowena Jean Rodriguez was born at 5:34 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, weighing 3 pounds 10 ounces and measuring 18 inches long.

The staff of the Obstetrics and Pediatrics department put together a special gift basket for the Rodriguez family, including many essentials for a newborn baby and also some special things for mom. To document this special occasion, Lilypad Photography donated a newborn photography session while the family was still in the hospital.

The University of Kansas Health System – Great Bend Campus offers expecting mothers and their families private labor and recovery suites. The “High Five for Mom and Baby Hospital” designation earned by the Obstetrics nursing staff means that the facility puts a high priority on skin-to-skin and breastfeeding, especially in the golden hour after birth.
