HAYS — The Bricks in Downtown Hays will celebrate Earth Day with Sticks on The Bricks on Wednesday, April 22, at Union Pacific Pavilion at 10th & Main Street, in partnership with K-State Research and Extension and the Fort Hays State University Percussion Department.
The free, public event begins with a hands-on activity from 6-7 p.m., where participants of all ages can create their own instruments using recycled materials. Attendees will make tin can drums and shakers, offering a fun and creative way to explore reuse while celebrating Earth Day. All materials will be provided.
At 7 p.m., the Fort Hays State University Percussion Ensemble will present a live performance. The ensemble includes both music majors and non-majors who come together to explore their musical potential through traditional concert works and open-form performances. The event will conclude with a special audience-participation piece, inviting attendees to perform alongside the university students using the instruments they created earlier in the evening.
“Sticks on The Bricks is a fun way to bring people together through creativity, music, and sustainability,” said Lee Ann June, executive director of The Bricks in Downtown Hays. “We are excited to partner with K-State Research and Extension and FHSU to offer an Earth Day event that is interactive, educational, and full of energy.
”Sticks on The Bricks is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and enjoy a unique downtown experience.
