WICHITA — The Barton Cougars shocked No. 2 ranked Cloud County 11-9 to send the Western Division champion to the losers bracket of the Region 6 baseball tournament.

Barton's Dalton Jorgensen delivered a 2-run game-winning single in the eighth inning to upset the Thunderbirds.

Barton pitcher Antonio Mendez yielded two runs in seven innings.

The Cougars roared to an 8-0 lead.

Kyle Walker scored on a Kyle Graves first-inning double. Micah McGavran's 3-run third inning homer brought home Kyler Horsman and Rhett Winchester.

J.J. Spafford's perfect bunt single set up a 4-run fifth inning. McGavran scored on Dalton Jorgensen's fly ball. Walker doubled home Spafford and Hayden Oviatt. Walker scored on Carter Helm's single.

Leading 9-2, Cougar relievers Daegan Vinduska, Jake Field and Landon Ritchey were ineffective when nine consecutive Thunderbirds reached base on six hits, two walks and a hit batter.

Vasya Seymour greeted Barton's third reliever Ritchey with an infield single for a 9-7 score. Joey Marino's single drove home Luke Clayton and Nolan Green for a 9-9 tie.
