NESS CITY — Post Rock Radio LLC – which is Kiss 104.7 and My Country 93.5 — along with John Deere dealer BTI of Ness City will host the first ever “Turkey Cook-Off” on Saturday Nov. 12. The competition will start at 11 a.m. sharp and take place at the Ness City High School.
“We are very excited to bring this idea to Ness City. This is a community event where we will have some fun with the best turkey recipe and side dishes plus help out the local food pantry and the Ness City High School booster club,” said station program director Chris Elsen.
The station is currently taking entries for the best turkey recipe. Those that enter will prepare their turkey at home and then bring it to the competition on Nov. 12 for the judges to decide who has the best tasting turkey.
First prize is a new 2016 Pro Series 34 Traeger Grill in Gun Metal Blue, complements of BTI of Ness City, the local Traeger distributor. Second place will win $100 cash from Farm Credit of Ness City. Judging will also be taken for best side dish and best dessert.
Entry for a turkey is $15 and $5 for side dishes and desserts and prizes will be awarded.
“All the money from the entry fees will go to the Ness City Booster Club,” Elsen said. “And for those that are entering the turkey competition you’ll be provided a turkey compliments of Community Bank, Jamboree Foods and Farm Credit, all of Ness City. After the competition, around noon, the doors to the cafeteria at the High School in Ness City will be opened and the community is invited to come enjoy a turkey dinner with the sides. Cost for this is $2.50 a plate and again, all that money will be donated to the Ness City Booster Club. All we are asking the community to do is bring a can of food with them to go to the local food bank ... that’s it! Our sponsors have covered the cost of the food and the prizes.”
Deadline to enter is Nov. 9. For an entry form pick one up at BTI or Jamboree Foods in Ness City or contact Chris Elsen at 785-222-3400 or email your request for an entry form to chris.elsen@postrockradio.com or send a message on Facebook to either of the Kiss 104.7 or My Country 93.5 facebook page.
“We want to stress that you do not need to be from Ness City to enter the competition or to come eat.”
