Ten local charities and non-profit groups were recent recipients of $1,000 donations from the Midwest Energy Community Fund and CoBank, supporting a variety of narrowly-defined projects.
In April, Midwest Energy’s Community Fund made a $5,000 investment that was matched by a $5,000 “Sharing Success” grant from CoBank. This $10,000 pool of funds, administered by the Heartland Community Foundation, awarded ten $1,000 donations support specific projects.
To be eligible for one of these grants, an organization must be local and serve a specific project or need in Midwest Energy’s service area. Organizations also had to have had raised an equal or greater amount toward a specific project or goal.
Receiving $1,000 grants were:
Bunker Hill - Smoky Hills Public Television: to purchase children’s books for the Literacy Leadership Initiative
Grainfield - Grainfield Community Development Committee: To help in the purchase of new flooring for the medical and business complex building
Great Bend - United Way of Central Kansas: To purchase books for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Campaign
Hays - High School Helping Hands Program: To help establish a used prom dress business for Ellis County area
Hays - Western Kansas Child Advocacy Center (WKCAC): To help purchase toiletries, blankets, pillows, school supplies, and other needs to the children who have been seen by WKCAC
Kinsley - Edwards County EMS: To purchase two CPR training manikins
Kirwin - City of Kirwin: To purchase playground equipment working with an Eagle Scout Project
Offerle - Offerle Fire Department: To purchase personal protective equipment for the volunteer fire department
Scott City - Scott Community Foundation: Matching funds to establish endowed funds for organizations serving the Scott County area
Weskan - Weskan Park project: To help in the purchase of materials for a walk and bike path in the community’s park
“Midwest Energy would like to thank CoBank for making these funds available, and the Heartland Community Foundation for their willingness to work with us by establishing this fund,” said Bob Muirhead, Midwest Energy’s vice president of Customer Service. “CoBank is one of two lenders used by Midwest Energy, and their generosity helps us support the good work non-profits do in our communities.”
