Local Certified Financial Planner Shirley Flick was recently recognized by the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity for her continued support of the nonprofit organization. During the “Barton County’s Got Talent” Dinner Theater fundraiser on Jan. 19th, Shirley Flick was given the local chapter’s VIP Award for her generous financial and volunteer contributions.
During the Deepest Pocket Challenge at the dinner theater event, Flick donated over $600 of the $17,000 that was raised that evening. “Shirley has been supporting Habitat for Humanity in a big way for the past several years,” says Habitat board president Rachel Mawhirter. “She is continually going above and beyond to help us reach our fundraising goals, so we couldn’t be more pleased to give her our VIP Award.”
Habitat for Humanity has plans for beginning another project in Barton County in the coming months. Anyone interested in applying to purchase a Habitat for Humanity home through a zero-interest mortgage should email habitatbartoncounty@hotmail.com.
Shirley lives in Barton County with her husband, Doug. They have two sons and three grandchildren. “The main reason I continue to support Habitat is because of their financial stewardship,” Flick says. “They help families purchase homes. It’s not a giveaway. The mortgages get repaid so they can keep building more homes. The donations I’ve made will hopefully help build lots and lots of houses over the next few decades.”
