St. Rose Health Center is now home to a new, technologically advanced surgical suite on the second floor of the facility, said Cathy Boyd, R.N.
It recently began offering one-day surgical procedures including colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, carpel tunnel surgery, pain management and minor biopsies.
The facility recently earned the stamp of approval from the Kansas Department of Health & Environment. No deficiencies were cited during a survey.
“Our St. Rose Surgical Services team is here for anything that requires local or regional anesthesia,” Boyd explained. “We also offer procedures that entail conscious sedation.
“This surgery area is smaller than our previous location but it has a number of benefits,” she continued. “The new configuration allows us easier access to patients and even more personal attention. A patient is never farther than a step or two away from a registered nurse.”
A volunteer is available in the surgery waiting room to provide that extra personal touch, the registered nurse added.
“And it’s a comfortable atmosphere,” she noted. “The décor is homey and relaxing to accommodate patients and their families.”
The rest of the local staff includes two other registered nurses and a certified surgical technician. Ana Refinetti, M.D., a St. Rose general surgeon, is available for some procedures.
“We are all pleased that our new surgery suite is up and running,” Dr. Refinetti said. “Patients and their families can depend on the quality care and treatment they deserve.”
In addition to the local staff, three physicians from Hays Medical Center perform surgeries at St. Rose; HaysMed and Centura Health co-own St. Rose.
The HaysMed physicians are: Dr. Paul Teget and Dr. Jerod Grove, both general surgeons; and Dr. Vivek Sharma and Dr. Gulraiz Cheema, both orthopedic surgeons.
Dr. Teget said he is excited to be part of the new Surgical Services team.
“This new St. Rose facility is beautiful,” he said. “I am honored to have the opportunity to provide expanded surgical services to Great Bend and the surrounding area.
“At times,” Dr. Teget continued, “it is difficult for patients to travel for a variety of reasons; they appreciate us coming to them. This new facility will allow us to provide increased convenience for these patients in a professional, caring atmosphere.”
