Sunflower Bank is partnering with Yellow Ribbon Fund (YRF) to support injured service members and their families.  Sunflower has set a goal to contribute up to $50,000 to YRF. To reach this goal, Sunflower will donate $3 for every new account opened and 3¢ for every swipe of a Sunflower Bank debit card, now through December 31, 2014.
“A wounded service member’s journey from the battlefield back to America is always difficult. And every courageous step that he or she makes requires the support and love of family and friends, who also sacrifice more than most of us realize,” said General Stanley McChrystal, USA (Ret.), board member of YRF. “But although it will always be hard, the Yellow Ribbon Fund is a special team that eases that burden, and reminds us that no one should have to travel that road alone.”
“We’re thrilled to partner with the Yellow Ribbon Fund. It’s an important cause and a group of citizens that we can’t support enough. We’re honored to have the opportunity to increase awareness of an exceptional organization,” said Mollie Carter, president and CEO of Sunflower Bank.
Since 2005, the Yellow Ribbon Fund has been filling gaps in services for injured service members and their families, with 83 cents of every dollar spent going to services and programs. During the recovery process, YRF offers free rental cars, taxi rides, hotel stays, and apartments; support for family caregivers; and social events, outings, free tickets to sporting and cultural events, and career and education mentoring. After they return home, YRF’s nationwide network of volunteers continue to provide practical support.
“The injured service members and their families that we serve make up a unique community. Their heroism and commitment is extraordinary,” said Mark E. Robbins, executive director of the Yellow Ribbon Fund. “We are excited that the Sunflower Bank community is reaching out to aid these heroes through this program. It truly makes a difference.”
Sunflower is hosting veteran appreciation events in many of their communities during the month of November.  Customers and non-customers can also donate to YRF at any Sunflower Bank branch.
