HAYS — Sunflower Electric Power Corp. has promoted James Turrentine to manager of safety.
Turrentine will be responsible for managing Sunflower’s safety program, including facility audits, incident investigations, policy and procedure reviews, the drug and alcohol program, and the Department of Transportation program. He will ensure Sunflower is compliant with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, in addition to leading Sunflower’s Safety Team efforts and company initiatives that reinforce safety culture.
Turrentine was instrumental in identifying and writing a recently approved Equipment and Pipe Labeling program for Sunflower, ensuring equipment and hazards are identified in the facilities. During his tenure, Turrentine has also demonstrated his commitment to safety serving on the Safety Committee and as a team member for the Job Analysis program and TapRoot Investigative program. He brings with him a strong background in the electric utility industry, affording him expertise in the areas of Lockout/Tagout, Confined Spaces, Man-In-Vessel, Weld-Burn permitting, and safety observation audits. He has worked closely with Sunflower’s Safety Department, identifying areas of opportunity for Arc Flash ratings on personal protective equipment, electrical glove inspections, equipment services dates, and various other safety initiatives. In addition, Turrentine is familiar with troubleshooting and correcting non-routine and emergency situations as well as coordinating response efforts specific to employee injuries, vehicle accidents, and fires.
With Turrentine’s promotion, Sunflower will seek to backfill the shift supervisor at its Holcomb, facility.
