The virtual community of Sunflower Diversified Services supporters rallied around people with special needs and raised more than $30,000 at the recent Charity Gala.
“We didn’t really know what to expect with our virtual fundraiser but, needless to say, we are very happy with the results,” said Cody Harris, director of planned giving and community supports. “All of us at Sunflower appreciate those who donated time and/or money as sponsors, bid during the silent and live auctions, and received Party Packs before the event.
“Staff and clients are always gratified by the generosity of central Kansans and this year is no exception. Donors can be assured that every cent we raised will go directly to programs and services for children and adults with disabilities and delays.”
Harris noted that 85 Party Packs were distributed before the Gala and 125 people placed bids during the auctions. Others made cash donations to the event.
Included in the total collected is $3,815 for Sunflower’s Invest in Kids Club and $440 for the non-profit agency’s Beautiful Minds Art Studio.
“While all services are crucial, some people want to earmark donations for infants and toddlers at our Early Education Center and Incredible Years Preschool,” Harris noted. “The art studio also has drawn the attention of donors who encourage clients to express themselves creatively.”
Harris announced the annual Charity Gala banquet and auction will be scheduled for next February or March.
“We are grateful for the success of our virtual event but we can’t wait to see everyone in person next year,” Harris said.
Sunflower serves infants, toddlers and adults in Barton, Pawnee, Rice, Rush and Stafford counties. It is in its 55th year.
