Wheatland Electric Cooperative Inc. announced Friday that its Sharing Success Fund, managed by the Scott Community Foundation, has awarded a $1,000 grant to Barton County Emergency Aid.

Established by the Barton County Association of Churches, Barton County Emergency Aid (EA) seeks to assist people with rent and utilities. The organization also provides funds to Volunteers in Action to assist with travel expenses for necessary medical appointments. In addition, EA assists people who are homeless and provides support to transients. By utilizing EA, individuals can receive aid and support from one location instead of going to multiple churches individually seeking assistance, said Nancy Sundahl, board president of Barton County Emergency Aid. The grant funds will be used to provide direct financial aid to those in need.

The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the Wheatland Electric Sharing Success Fund from non-profit organizations on Dec. 1, 2012. Wheatland Electric and CoBank have each contributed $10,000 this year to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted.

Non-profit groups interested in receiving funding from the Wheatland Electric Sharing Success Fund can apply online at https://www.weci.net/sharing-success-program. Questions should be referred to Alli Conine, manager of member services & corporate communications, at 620-874-4563 or aconine@weci.net.
