Barton County approaching 500th COVID-19 case
51 news cases from Monday to Friday

Barton County Public Information Officer Donna Zimmerman reported there have been 492 positive COVID-19 cases in the county as of 5:30 p.m. Friday. This represents an increase of 51 new cases since the last report on Monday, Sept. 21.

This brings the total number of positive cases to 492, of which 142 remain active. There have been seven deaths related to COVID-19.

The county has issued 2,2945 quarantine or isolation orders and 499 of those remain active.

The new cases include 17 males and 34 females; 21 reside in Ellinwood, 25 in Great Bend, one in Hoisington and four in rural Barton County.

Cases have been reported in 203 males and 289 females. The total number of cases, by residence, and the number currently active are:

Claflin 12 - 0

Ellinwood 73 - 52

Great Bend 245 - 72

Hoisington 60 - 1

Olmitz 1 - 0

Pawnee Rock 5 - 1

Rural Barton County 96 - 16


State statistics

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported Friday that there have been 56,592 COVID-19 cases statewide, resulting in 2,816 hospitalizations and 632 deaths. There were 1,366 new cases and 11 new deaths reported since Wednesday, Sept. 23.

The state has had 446,178 negative tests.

In Barton County, KDHE reports 24 residents have been hospitalized due to COVID-19. Six patients were admitted to  Intensive Care Units and four were placed on mechanical ventilation. Fourteen have been discharged, according to information available to KDHE.
