COVID-19 fatalities, hospitalizations continue to wane

As of 9 a.m. Friday, Kansas has had 767,482 COVID-19 cases, resulting in 19,542 hospitalizations and 7,983 statewide deaths, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. There were 513 new cases, 52 new hospitalizations and eight new deaths since Wednesday.  This includes the number of probable cases for Rush County being reduced by two.

Here are the area case numbers as of 9 a.m. Friday, with any change since Wednesday:

• Barton 6,476 (+2) 

• Ellsworth 2,012 (+3)

• Pawnee 2,118 (+3)

• Rice 2,596 (+7)

• Rush 808 (-2)

• Russell 1,870 (+2)

• Stafford 1,133 (+2)


Area deaths

Here are the COVID-related death totals for area counties as of 9 a.m. Friday. There have been no new deaths reported since Feb. 16.

• Pawnee 23

• Rice 22 

• Rush 18

• Russell 36 

• Stafford 26


Hospitalizations

The Great Bend Tribune also reports on COVID-19-related hospitalizations in Barton, Pawnee and Stafford counties. These did not change Friday.

• As of 9 a.m. Friday, Barton County has reported 175 hospitalizations attributed to COVID-19 over the course of the pandemic, including 32 intensive care unit (ICU) admissions to date, and 114 discharged patients reported to KDHE. These numbers have not changed since March 2.

• Pawnee County has reported 76 hospital admissions, 15 ICU admissions and 50 discharged patients to date. These numbers have not changed since Feb. 16. 

• Stafford County has reported 36 hospital admissions, 15 ICU admissions and 23 discharged patients to date. These numbers have not changed since Jan. 5.
