Kansas reaches 3,525 in COVID deaths

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reports there have been 259,822 COVID-19 cases, resulting in 7,807 hospitalizations and 3,525 deaths statewide as of 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18. There were 3,688 new cases, 23 new deaths and 94 new hospitalizations reported since Friday, Jan. 15.

Here are the new total cases and total deaths reported for area counties, with changes from Friday:

• Barton 2,435 cases  (+30); 39 deaths

• Ellsworth 1,141 (+8); 18

• Pawnee, 1,077 (+12); 8

• Rice, 939 (+16); 5

• Rush, 400 (+9); 10

• Russell, 781 (+7); 20 (+1)

• Stafford, 311 (+2); 8


Great Bend USD 428

Great Bend USD 428 reports it received notification Monday, Jan. 18, that a staff member at the District Education Center and a staff member at Helping Hands Preschool, located in the Washington Education Center at 2535 Lakin Ave., tested positive for COVID-19. There were no known close contacts with others in the buildings.
