New cluster reported in Barton County

A long-term care facility in Barton County came off of the state’s COVID-19 list of current cluster locations on Wednesday but a group living home was added to the list. A Rosewood Services group living facility in Great Bend was added to the list after there were a reported seven cases within the last 14 days. The last onset date was Sept. 10.

Long-term care facility Azria Health Woodhaven in Ellinwood remained on the list, having 12 cases within the last 14 days; the last onset date was Sept. 30. Medicalodges Great Bend, a long-term care facility that was added to the weekly list on Sept. 30, was removed this week.

The Russell Senior Center in Russell was also on the list with 11 cases in the last 14 days; the last onset date was Oct. 3.

Area correctional facilities also remained on the cluster list: Larned has had 16 cases within the last 14 days, Ellsworth has had 10 and Hutchinson has had 32.

There were no other clusters listed in the Golden Belt.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment publishes the names of locations that have five or more COVID-19 cases with symptom onset dates in the last 14 days. Once a location no longer has five or more cases with symptom onset dates within 14 days, it will be removed from the list. Cases are associated or linked to a particular location through Public Health investigations.


Statewide

KDHE reports Kansas has had 63,952 COVID-19 cases, resulting in 3,121 hospitalizations and 723 statewide deaths as of 9 a.m. Wednesday. There were 1,244 new cases and 17 deaths reported since Monday, Oct. 5. 

Barton County has had 30 hospitalizations, an increase of two since Monday, but the number of ICU admissions (8) and patients on mechanical ventilation (4) had not changed. These numbers are as reported by health-care providers and local health departments into the electronic surveillance system, EpiTrax. There have been 17 discharged patients. The data only includes cases with available discharge information reported to KDHE.


Pawnee County updates numbers

The Pawnee County Health Department posted its weekly COVID-19 report on Tuesday, Oct. 6. There have been 397 Pawnee County cases which includes residents at the Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility. There have been 92 “community cases” and 15 of those remain active. Pawnee County has identified 19 cases in the last 14 days and 11 in the last seven days before the post.

Pawnee County’s risk level is yellow, “minimal to moderate risk.”
