Number of new COVID-19 cases drops

Kansans continue to get vaccinated against COVID-19, according to data from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The number of new cases, new hospitalizations and new deaths attributed to COVID-19 declined over the weekend.

Statewide, 61.4% of Kansans are vaccinated with at least one dose at 53.0% have completed the vaccine series. In Barton County, 53.40% of people 5 years of age an older have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 48.50% have completed the vaccine series.

As of 9 a.m. Monday, Kansas has had 748,520 COVID-19 cases, resulting in 18,562 hospitalizations and 7,725 statewide deaths. There were 4,027 new cases, 71 new hospitalizations and nine new deaths reported since Friday, Feb. 4. This includes one new death in Rice County.

This compares to last Friday, when there were 4,971 new cases, 130 new hospitalizations and 139 new deaths from two days earlier. The increase of nine deaths from Friday to Monday was the smallest increase in the death toll since Dec. 20.

Hospitalizations

The Great Bend Tribune also reports on COVID-19-related hospitalizations in Barton, Pawnee and Stafford counties. • As of 9 a.m. Monday, Barton County has reported 170 hospitalizations attributed to COVID-19 over the course of the pandemic, including 32 intensive care unit (ICU) admissions to date, and 112 discharged patients reported to KDHE. These numbers were unchanged from Wednesday, Feb. 2.

• Pawnee County has reported 74 hospital admissions, 15 ICU admissions and 49 discharged patients to date. This includes one new admission and one new reported discharge since last Friday.

• Stafford County has reported 36 hospital admissions, 15 ICU admissions and 23 discharged patients to date. Admission numbers have not changed since Jan. 5.


Great Bend USD 428

Great Bend USD 428 posts a weekly COVID-19 case tracking update. As of 9:27 a.m. Monday, there were 18 active positive cases in the district and 541 resolved cases for the 2021-22 school year.
