Joseph A. and Roma Lee (Riner) Murphy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 11, with family.
They both graduated from Fort Hays State University, Joe in 1966 and Roma in 1965, and have worked in Great Bend since that time. Joe was Consumer Service Representative for Midwest Energy for nearly 30 years. Since retiring from that position, he has continued to work as a custodian at Eisenhower School. Roma earned a Masters of Nursing degree from the University of Texas at El Paso. She has had a long career as a Registered Nurse. Her nursing work included working as an OB nurse at Central Kansas Medical Center, an instructor of Lamaze Childbirth classes, and a nursing instructor in the ADN program at Barton Community College. She continues to work part-time as a home health nurse and school nurse. The couple has four children, Kelly and Mark Disque of Wylie, Texas, Patrick and Theresa Murphy of Wichita, Sean Murphy of Papillion, Neb. and Mark and Kim Murphy of Olathe; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Spending time with their numerous children and grandchildren is their favorite pastime.
